"Abre" La Puerta

"When one door closes another one opens", whomever said this obviously didn't have kids.
This Sunday, as we were enjoying our casual morning, we had quite the rude awakening. Just like that, Maya walks into our bedroom and says, “Baby is stuck in the room”. So we go and see what was occurring. Sure enough, Sofia, a.k.a Little Baby was in fact stuck. Somehow Sofia had locked herself in the bedroom, windows were locked and there was no way to get in. NICE!
This of course would have had a quick resolution, if we knew where the key was…but NOO. Somehow, the key was misplaced. So Carlos and I tore up the entire house looking for the key that was absolutely nowhere to be found. Little Baby at 17 months old was by herself in her bedroom. She cried for almost a half hour, until she decided to take a nap. Maya, being the brave older sibling that she is told us that she knew exactly what to do, because she had seen Dora (the Explorer) open doors all the time on TV. “Mommy, you say ‘Abre’”….OFCOURSE what was I thinking!, We tried this approach, but unfortunately it didn’t work, and all options short of knocking down the door were out of the question. So we had to call a Locksmith to “Abre” the door and gouge us in the process. At the end of all the excitement, Little baby was out of the room safe and sound, and the family was together again.
We learned some very valuable lessons that Sunday morning: 1) No where the keys are 2)”Abre” only opens the door in the Dora cartoon and 3) Within our family, we don’t need to lock anyone out or in.

July Bugs

Hello Friends and Family--

Well I wish I could report that the Gutierrez family went on a wonderful vacation or exciting trip somewhere, but this couldn't be farther from the truth. For the past two weeks, this family has been dealing with colds, flu's and virus'....YUK!. Yup, Maya had a fever for a few nights with a stomach ailment and now Sofia is dealing with the same thing. Carlos and I have been battling a flu that seems to be lingering. All in all, we are balancing it out. It hasn't been easy on the family by far...but we are getting by. Hopefully by the end of July, we'll be done with our summer bugs.

News and Updates:

Carlos turned 36 on the 18th, we celebrated by enjoying a nice dinner and movie without the girls. He's had some great accomplishments this year, especially a tremendous weight loss of over 40lbs. This has taken great self discipline and restraint, but we are all greatful. In the longrun we are happy that he's healthy and working toward's a long life with his family.

Maya's new question of the day is "Why" or should I say, the question of every 5-minutes. The inquisitiveness has sure kicked in this week. It seems as though every othere response is "Why Mommy"... To us, Maya is a little independent brain child. She knows her shapes, in fact we'll be driving around town and she points out 'octogon' or 'diamond'. She also knows her alphabet, numbers (in both languages) and colors. She loves to read...everything and pretend that she is the teacher and we are all the students. Maya still likes everything "Dora" and really enjoys her brand new Dora (toddler) bed. She's as sharp as a whip, and we can't get anything past her.

Sofia (or Little Baby) has made some big changes this month, she is now sleeping in her new room upstairs with her sister all by herself. The transition went very smooth, within a couple days she was used to her new bedtime routine. Her vocabulary is starting to expand more and more each day, she will repeat things that are said, but says words here and there like, Yaya (for Maya), Roll (for lets Roll) , agua, mas, leche, chato, ya, mote (for remote) and many more that I can't remember at the moment. She enjoys writing and drawing and can hold a pencil like a pro. She also understands everything we tell her and say in both languages which is amazing. She is a little sponge of information. She gained 4 more teeth this month... which is great because now she can eat more foods. She loves her older sister and followers her around everywhere, even if Maya takes her toys away, she has to be right there with her....can't live without her can't live with her syndrome.

New Baby, is doing great enjoying the life in mommy's belly. I've felt new baby moving around much more and throwing some kicks and punches. We'll know more about the gender next month.

As for me, life is a balancing act. Its never seeing your kids and family get sick, even worse when you are sick yourself, but that is life. I am starting to show a little and barely fit into my 'fat' clothes. I still have good energy and minimal aches and pains which is wonderful. I can feel the baby moving a lot more, which is great. I can't wait until its born and our family is complete.

That is all for now, until I get a chance to write again.

Bienvenidos

Bienvenidos to the Gutierrez Blog. This Blog is about the Gutierrez family Carlos, Maya, Sofia, New Baby, Chato and me Cecilia. We welcome you to learn about our family, our adventures as we venture into the world of parenthood and personal growth. At times you may think that our adventures are ordinary, but to us they are anything but; We know that this precious time together as a family is a gift from god, and we cherish every moment. Many times it is overwhelming, but it is definately all worth it.
Carlos and I were married on March 29, 2003 and that was just the beginning. Almost two years later we were blessed with our first daughter, Maya Alicia Gutierrez. Two years later, we were blessed once again with the birth of our second daughter Sofia Viviana Gutierrez. Oh, but we can't forget our loyal pug Chato, he's been our family dog since before we were married and he is very much a Gutierrez too. But our family is still growing, we are expecting our third child in December and I am sure you will be reading about that as well.
Hope you enjoy reading and viewing the pictures, as much as we enjoy sharing.

Con Mucho Cari~no,
